Redhill Private Hire boss fined over assault on traffic warden

THE boss of a Redhill Private Hire firm has been ordered to pay more than £1,600 in fines and court costs after attacking a traffic warden who was trying to give him a parking ticket.

Muz Hussain, owner of Road Runners taxis in Station Road, lashed out at Celestin Dsouza, a civil enforcement officer, in June during a confrontation at The Drive in Horley over a penalty charge notice.

At Redhill Magistrates' Court on October 24, Hussain, 42, was fined £850 and ordered to pay costs of £775 plus a victim surcharge of £15 after he was found guilty of assault by beating and using threatening and abusive language.

Hussain, of Durham Close, Crawley, West Sussex, also had his personal Private Hire licence suspended by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council following the incident.

“This case sends a clear message that we will not tolerate any abuse towards our staff,” said Councillor Steve Farrer, executive member for community safety.

“We also suspended Mr Hussain’s private hire driver licence at the first available opportunity after he was charged by the police. Anyone who is threatening or abusive to our staff will face the consequences of the law.”

Presumably he had an operators licence in the area where his company is, pity he not down here in Brighton as
he would not be able to hold that licence as he lives in Crawley.
All Brighton PH operators MUST live within the Brighton and Hove boundary.

Surely it is the office that must be within the boundary and not the operator personally.

You all seem to missing the point, where the driver is lives is irrelevant, it is where the holder of the operators licence is based, as I said , in Brighton he must reside in Brighton.
Ie, the operator licence holder of my company lives in Brighton but the drivers on the circuit live in many of the surrounding areas, ask Susses who does NOT live in Brighton!

Why must the operator live in Brighton......what possible difference does that make to Brighton Council?

Just to add to that I have a Brighton operators licence and have a driver who lives in an adjacent area on my licence because he can not have one in his own name!
