Man threw bin at taxiA MAN threw a wheelie bin at a taxi and smashed its back window, a court heard.
David Chown, aged 20, shattered the glass of the vehicle's rear windscreen, Plymouth magistrates heard.
Chown, of Laira Bridge Road, Prince Rock, admitted causing criminal damage to the taxi on March 24.
Eoin McCarthy, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said Chown and another man took a taxi from Union Street to Embankment Road.
He added: "The defendant got out of the vehicle, it appears to go and collect some money for payment of the fare. There was some discussion with the driver.
"He left the scene briefly with the other male. Chown was seen running towards the vehicle carrying a wheelie bin.
"He raised the item above his head and threw it at the rear window of the cab, which shattered on impact."
Mr McCarthy said Chown then took refuge in a nearby address where he was arrested by police.
Probation officer Charlie Casey said Chown was drinking heavily at the time of the offence. He added he had started drinking because his grandmother was seriously ill but he had not had any alcohol for three weeks.
Magistrates agreed to adjourn sentence so Chown can be assessed for a court order to treat and test his alcohol problem. He was ordered to return to court on June 27.
