Private Hire Vehicles

Transport

Julie Elliott (Sunderland Central, Labour)

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport pursuant to the Answer of 20 June 2012, Official Report, column 1016W, on private hire vehicles: Greater London, what assessment she has made of the share of the taxi and private hire market held by (a) Addison Lee and (b) other companies.

Norman Baker (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Regional and Local Transport), Transport; Lewes, Liberal Democrat)

Under devolution, transport in London is the responsibility of the Mayor and Transport for London. As such, the Department for Transport has made no assessment of the share of the taxi and private hire market of Addison Lee and other companies. It is open to the Law Commission to take issues relating to market share into account as part of their consideration of the law around taxis and private hire vehicles, should they think this relevant.
