Two female cops lured to their deaths by a madman.

It's crazy that anyone should do this. He couldn't possibly be sane.

To some degree anyone who puts themselves before the public is at risk from mad people.

There could well be a clamour for cops to be tooled up. And who would deny them.

But cabbies deserve some degree of protection too. Don't we need surveillance equipment in our cars? And some understanding from the Law and councils when we take extraordinary measures to protect ourselves?

While it may be of no practical value to the bereaved, shouldn't we think about the sacrifice these two innocent cops made? And the front line policemen who have to respond in similar ways, and place themselves at risk doing so?
