Can't be that many bumps if people are still paying £40k for a plate to run one of these 'dodgems'.

If I can add my ten penneth.

Why should PH take a knowledge test at all?

The work should be pre booked, and if a driver, even a new driver, cannot get a passenger from a to b, then is he or she in the right job?

I dont see it as a drop in standards, more of a case of a standard that shouldnt have been imposed in the first place.

regards

Captain cab

A vaild question Captain, but I think, on balance, a PH knowledge is a good thing.

Sat Nav doesn't work, despite what the makers say, and is it really asking too much for someone to know where they are going, and the best route?

Im not sure if Im correct, and know you will correct me, but shouldnt PH agree the fare prior to the journey somewhere along the line (like the time of booking?)

Apart from the mode of securing the hire, I can't really see the difference with HC, at least in some regards.

Yep, just like I'm rather suspicious if you actually drive a cab in that area

In New Zealand taxis are classed as PSV's

Taxi drivers simply require PSV entitlement on their ordinary licence & the passing of a local knowledge test

A national licence system which entitles you to operate anywhere in the country as long as you have local knowledge

All the best

Interesting. It reminds me that PH are called 'hackeys' in Ireland, and in China un-licensed vehicles are called 'black cab'.
