Council survey clubbers in Ayr town centre on taxi move Boogying, booze – and surveys.
One of these seems out of place in a Saturday night out on the town.
But that’s just what greeted Ayr revellers last weekend.
For South Ayrshire Council want to know what people think of the fact the town centre taxi rank has moved to the Boswell Park car park.
The move was made to try and reduce the risk of injuries and keep people who have been drinking away from the road.
But concerns have been raised that the car park isn’t lit well enough and has too many pot holes.
And this may mean it is more dangerous that it’s previous location outside Boswells bar.
So the council paid for two of the Ayr taxi rank officials, who are employed by Security Scotland, to conduct surveys on punters over the weekend – despite the fact a lot of the people getting in and out the town centre taxis will have been drinking.
Security Scotland, who provide SIA regulated security professionals to everything from taxi ranks to football matches confirmed they had been asked to host the survey.
And South Ayrshire Council insist they are useful in combatting violence in the town centre.
They add that questionnaires are a routine part of the information gathering process.
Councillor Rita Miller, is chair of the community safety partnership.
She explained: “We are asking taxi drivers, operators and members of the public for their feedback on a temporary change of location of a taxi rank at Boswell Park in Ayr.
“The change was prompted by complaints of disorder around its original location and our aim is to reduce the number of such incidents, while promoting the safe use of taxis late at night.
“We will look at the feedback we receive to determine if this temporary change has been a success and might become a permanent measure”.
