Minicab driver admits sexually assaulting woman passenger

A minicab driver has admitted sexually assaulting a passenger.

Mohammed Akram, aged 35, of Wyresdale Road, Heaton, admitted intentionally sexually touching a woman on October 7 last year.

He was due to stand trial, but pleaded guilty after receiving an indication from Judge Timothy Clayson of what his sentence would be if he admitted responsibility.

Joesph Allman, prosecuting, told Bolton Crown Court yesterday that the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was a passenger in the private hire vehicle, in the early hours of the morning.

The driver, a married father-of-four, went an unusual route and made inappropriate comments to the woman.

Mr Allman said the woman said Akram sexually assaulted her.

Judge Clayson said he considered the incident to be a “breach of trust”.

He indicated to Akram that he would not receive a custodial sentence for the offence.

The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared. He will be sentenced on Friday, May 24.

Akram is no longer working as a minicab driver and has been working in his family’s restaurant.

"He indicated to Akram that he would not receive a custodial sentence for the offence."
