Drugs mule who smuggled almost two kilos of cocaine into UK in his STOMACH jailed

Nwagbogo Nnebe, from Nigeria, was "very lucky not to have suffered terminal damage"

A drugs mule risked his life bringing in £300,000 worth of cocaine to Manchester in his stomach – but was caught trying to smuggle it out of the city in a cornflakes box.

Nwagbogo Nnebe had nearly two kilos of the drug inside him when he stepped off a plane from Lagos, Nigeria, accompanied by a 12-year-old girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Manchester Crown Court heard that after checking into the Ibis hotel on Princess Street in the city, Nnebe was provided with a box of cornflakes by a Salford -based drug trafficker, Celestine Ezemuo, to stash the haul in once he passed it from his body.

But the pair were under surveillance by police investigating the international conspiracy – and they were arrested moments after Nnebe got into Ezemuo’s car for the handover the following day.

Nnebe, 47, of no fixed address, was jailed for eight years after admitting conspiring to smuggle drugs.

Private hire driver Ezemuo, 46, of Taylorson Street, Salford, admitted conspiracy to supply cocaine and was jailed for nine years and nine months. The cocaine recovered was of 84 per cent purity and had been compressed into 100 plastic pellets.

Nnebe revealed to police he had agreed to swallow and transport the contraband for a £7,000 fee after falling into debt in Nigeria, where he had a struggling business and six children at private school. John Wolfson, defending, said: “He is very lucky not to have suffered severe, if not terminal damage to himself. It shows the extent to which he was under pressure from his creditors.”

Simon Nicol, defending dad-of-three Ezemuo, said: “He clearly wasn’t receiving the drugs himself. Mr Nnebe had packaged them for the journey to London and that seems to indicate that (Ezemuo) was not high up in this organisation.”
