Man fined for operating minicab in Kettering without a license

A man spotted operating a taxi service without a licence has been fined £200.

At Northampton Magistrates Court on Monday (January 13), Robert Charles, of Queensway, Burton Latimer, was convicted for operating a private hire vehicle without an operator’s licence.

He was seen dropping off passengers in Kettering town centre by police officers in July 2013 when it was known that he had no licence to operate such a business.

Mr Charles who had previously operated a company VIP Taxis in Burton Latimer and had also been licensed to work in Wellingborough pleaded guilty to the offence. He was fined £200, costs of £200 were awarded and a £10 victim surcharge.

Mr Charles had previously been before Wellingborough Magistrates Court in November 2012 when he had received a conditional discharge for the same offence.

Shirley Plenderleith, head of environmental health, said: “The licensing process for hackney carriages and private hire vehicles, their drivers and operators is designed to ensure that the travelling public can be confident that they are being transported safely. Individuals going through this process pay significant fees to demonstrate that they and their vehicles are fit and proper to provide this service. Individuals who avoid the licensing system undermine these safety systems and take away the livelihood of those who have paid to be able to do this work legitimately.”

I would hope he was issued a fixed penalty for no insurance as well.

That's the way to ensure he stays away from punters.
