If I done 1000 miles (including empty miles) I'd expect to take £1000 at least.

Exactly, so on that basis a driver in one of my cars would take home a tad over £700 for the weeks work. Or just over 70%. How many circuits offer a 70% share of the bag with no other costs? Of course if a driver in one of my cars was earning this much on a regular basis, I would be advising him that he was in a position to buy his own car and become independent.
.

A grand a week hmmmmm. Put me down for a start can be there first thing monday morning. working 6 to 7 days some weeks and doing nothing like that up here. If thats for 5 shifts then thats £200 a shift even on a monday and a tuesday.

I run at around £1 per mile as well. But to get £1000/1000 miles a week I'd have to do about 90 hours eusasmiles.zip

Now pay attention 1000 divided by 2 = 500 that's allowing 50% for dead mileage, could be a lot more job dependant, but the driver has no control over that, so the first 200 at 0.40 =£80, 300 at 0.33 = 99 = 179 PW

Please not this is an example only, but if you had to pay granddad you would not have much left, after paying rent council tax mortgage gas electric and food

Do you actually have a clue what you are on about? You haven't said how much you take for your 1,000 miles a week but at a guess I would say that you take a lot less than the £1.00 a mile that others have said that they charge.

Grandad that was an example, but if your cars do and they must do, at least 500 a week that's £179, if you say 250 of that is return dead mileage the driver is still paying you for the privilege

It's better than the £250 + radio rent you'd pay here

Using your example then, the driver is paying £179 a week for around 10-12 gallons of fuel, the purchase price of the car, the depreciation on the car, the licensing of the car, the taxing of the car, the maintenance of the car and of course the work done by the office in obtaining the contracts, invoicing, advertising, answering the phone calls etc. How much do all of these cost you a week Skippy?

Plus £200 a week family tax credit + free council rent + free school meals ++++ not a bad job for some! sadly all my kids have grown up. That's why it's hard for grandad to get drivers, he's paying to much, they would be worse off.

You'd also be paying your own fuel here as well.

I don't have any spare availability for drivers at the moment. It is the wrong time of year to buy another car. Come Easter, I may get another one and then look for a driver. We don't make enough out of each car to chase it.
