Rail bosses to cut taxi-buses

Taxi drivers in Petersfield are celebrating the end of the road for a transport scheme they said was taking away their business.

Cabbies in the town were outraged when South West Trains launched its Taxi-Bus, a low-cost minibus to take passengers to and from Petersfield Railway Station.

However, the service is to be withdrawn in October, after just one year in operation, as not enough people are using it.

The cancellation of the bus has been welcomed by taxi drivers who felt the Taxi-Bus, offering £1 journeys, was undercutting their trade.

Barry Winter, chairman of the Petersfield Taxi Association, and owner of Barry's Taxis, said: "We were up-in-arms about it all.

Something to celebrate....... getting rid of the competition

I bet they wish they could get rid of private hire

TAXI-BUS systems hurt PH and Taxi trade alike so both should be celebrating, but why worry about outside threats when we can snipe and bicker amongst ourselves so well.
