Blackburn driver found to have no private hire licence as police crack down on unsafe taxis

POLICE and council officers continued their clampdown on unsafe taxis by inspecting 20 vehicles.

Officers set up a checkpoint close to the entrance of Blackburn Railway Station and pulled in the taxis for random spot checks.

Of those one was taken off the road after the driver didn’t have a private hire licence and eight were given seven days notice to fix defects or have their vehicles seized.

Two motorists were given £50 penalties for using the bus lane outside the station.

PC Zain Ul-Haq said: “We are determined to keep our roads safe and we will be continuing to run similar operations in the following months in the town centre.

“Many other drivers given advice/warnings for driving through bus lanes, parking in disabled bays outside the train station and vehicle defects.”

The joint operation was run by the police and Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Environment, Leisure and Motor Vehicle Teams.
