A woman suffered a terrifying rape ordeal after mistaking her attacker’s car for a taxi home.
When she got into Robert Halliday’s vehicle, in Leicester city centre, he drove her to a remote area at a cemetery in Wigston and twice forced himself upon her.
The victim had been drinking to excess and became separated from her friend, before getting into Halliday’s Ford Focus.
After twice raping the distressed woman in his vehicle he dropped her off near McDonald’s restaurant in Wigston, where she immediately raised the alarm with a customer and the police were called.
As officers arrived at the scene and began caring for the woman, Halliday, 41, remained in the area, driving back past the fast food restaurant on a number of occasions.
He then drove home to Oakham and set about removing any evidence that the woman had been in his car.
