Tighe admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but disputed the number of kicks involved.
Bradford Crown Court heard that Tighe and his mother had been picked up at around 1am near Odsal roundabout on September 24 last year.
The taxi driver pulled over and Tighe lost his temper, kicking him in the ribs then head.
The court heard that Tighe, who suffers from ADHD, had been going through a difficult time, but has recently secured an apprenticeship.
He was handed an eight-month suspended sentence and 150 hours of community work.
