Ashfield taxi driver who made inappropriate comments to lone female passenger fails in bid to get licence back

A taxi driver has lost an appeal against a decision by Ashfield District Council to revoke his licence after he was found to have made inappropriate comments to a lone female passenger.

Tasawar Hussain, of Darnall, Sheffield, had his licence removed by the council in September last year after an investigation into his behaviour following remarks he had made to the woman during a late-night journey.

He appealed against the decision but at a hearing at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court last week failed in a bid to get it overturned amid concerns over public safety.

The driver was ordered to pay costs of £200 for the unsuccessful appeal, with the council welcoming the court’s ruling to upheld its original decision last autumn.

Coun John Wilmott, cabinet member for regulatory services, said: “The Licensing Authority puts the safeguarding of passengers and the public at the forefront of what we do, and we are extremely pleased that the magistrates court found the original decision to be fair and correct.

“As a council we strive to have a good relationship with the local taxi trades. But if drivers act or behave in a manner which puts the safety and security of the public at risk, we will have no hesitation in taking the necessary appropriate enforcement actions.”

I suspect there must have been more than one incident as this would seem a tad harsh and I doubt the magistrates would have upheld it based on just one incident would they ?
