Not much to see here in the grand scheme of things, but if police take an interest and there are clear images like this then your coupon ends up all over the press

Passenger racially abused taxi driver over fare cost

The force has now issued CCTV images of a woman who they believe could assist with their investigation

A passenger in a private hire taxi racially abused the driver over an additional cost to a fare.

The private hire taxi driver dropped off a passenger on Arbour Lane in Kirkby at around 7:30am on Wednesday, June 16.

The passenger then asked to be dropped off at another destination before an argument broke out over the additional cost to the fare.

The passenger then became abusive and made a racist comment towards the man driving the taxi, before getting out of the car and walking away.

An investigation was launched by Merseyside Police and enquiries have been carried out.

The force has now issued CCTV images of a woman who they believe could assist with their investigation.

Anyone who recognises the woman, or the woman herself should DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 21000420300.

Not exactly the clearest description of events, in my opinion at least [-(

Initially read that as if it was a double-drop, but not clearly stated as such. But the first passenger got out, and the second asked to be taken elsewhere, the driver said the fare would be more, and the second passenger got sniffy.

However, it may be that there was only one passenger, who got out and then got back in again and asked to be taken elsewhere.

Or perhaps even didn't get out, but just changed her mind when she got to the destination that was initially stated. So maybe the term 'dropped off' is a bit misleading if she never got out of the car.

Anway, all that's a bit academic. And it wouldn't have happened in Melton. Punters just suck it up there [-(

And the Echo's piece is just a verbatim copy of the Merseyside Police news release, therefore a good example of churnalism.

On the other hand, it does show that the unclear wording and the term 'private hire taxi' is the fault of Merseyside Police and not the Echo.

But, to be fair, 'private hire taxi' is probably a better way to convey the message to the public and potential witnesses rather than the more technically correct 'private hire vehicle'.

I think with that picture being circulated the police will catch up with her.

The fact that the police are following up these kind of matters is a very good thing, and I suspect they have more details that they haven't given to the press.
