The driver stopped to pick up a passenger who said their car was broken down

A Buckinghamshire taxi driver was reportedly grabbed by the neck and racially abused by a man who he stopped to collect in his cab.

The driver was called to Shelburne Road in High Wycombe at about 3.20pm on Wednesday after a potential passenger said their car had broken down.

On arrival the man became angry with the driver, and police say he called him derogatory names based on his ethnicity.

Officers say the victim then asked the abusive man to get out of his taxi, only for the man to grab him around the neck and shout at him before leaving the cab.

The offender is described as a white man, approximately 5ft 5ins tall of slim build, with short brown hair, clean shaven and squashed facial features.

He was wearing brown clothes, had a deep voice and his broken down car is described as a grey estate.

Investigating officer PC Cameron Parker-Graham, of Thames Valley Police, said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or any with information about what happened, to please come forward."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Thames Valley Police on 101 quoting incident 43210543280.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
