This is simply a different kind of advertorial and marketing. Note that the photo was supplied by Need-A-Cab themselves.

And there's quite a good word for all this kind of stuff that I won't lower the tone with, but it's a bit like patting each other on the back, or a mutual appreciation society O:)

Plymouth-based taxi firm Need-A-Cab has won the silver award in the Business Diversification category of the prestigious Professional Driver QSi Awards.

Professional Driver magazine’s QSi Awards ceremony was a night to remember for the cream of Britain’s chauffeur and private hire operators.

The awards, open to every chauffeur and private hire company in the UK, are designed to recognise operators and individuals that demonstrate excellent standards of Quality, Service and Innovation.

Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were presented in 10 categories at a thrilling event, held at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales.

The 10 categories mean there’s something for every size and type of operator, from one- person bands to large fleets.

Professional Driver Editor Mark Bursa said: "When Uber announced it would be giving work to local cab firms, many operators were sceptical.

"But Need-A-Cab didn’t run away – instead it ran towards the fire. Sensing an opportunity rather than a threat, it became the first company to work with the ride-hailing giant.

And the decision has paid off, with growing work and drivers returning to work for the company at a time when recruitment is difficult."

Categories also reward innovations in marketing, environmental performance and local community activities, while a special award – Professional Driver of the Year – singles out a chauffeur or private hire driver who is judged to be the best in the UK.

Mark Bursa said: “The private hire, taxi and chauffeur industry has made an enormous contribution to keeping Britain moving throughout the Covid pandemic, delivering food and medicines, transporting key workers and helping the elderly and vulnerable get to vaccination centres.”

"This year’s Professional Driver QSi Awards recognise those amazing efforts and bring the industry together for a much-needed night of celebration.”

Mark Bursa continued: “We were overwhelmed by the quality of the entries, and it was a very tough job to pick our winners. Only very good operators made the short list, so we can be sure our Gold, Silver and Bronze winners are among the very best in Britain.”

Professional Driver magazine is the national publication for the UK’s chauffeur, private hire and taxi industry. The QSi Awards were launched in 2013 as the first and only national awards for the industry.

So while operators in Plymouth (including this firm) have been saying people have been put in danger because of the driver shortage, they're at the same time taking on more work?
