A taxi driver was brutally attacked in the Splott area of Cardiff on Sunday morning and is still in intensive care.

According to his family, Muslim Ali has sustained a broken nose, lacerations to his left eye, fractures to his skull and bleeding in his brain.

Police have arrested a man although they have yet to confirm that he has been charged.

Rahat Ali, Muslim Ali’s son, said: “Thank you all for your messages and dua’as. Please continue keeping him in your dua’as and pray for his recovery. He is currently in hospital and will remain there for a while. We will update you with any news when we hear anything.

“The man has been arrested and charged. The police have informed us that it was an unprovoked attack. Please stay safe and look after yourself as this can happen to anyone in the community.”

Fabbiha Ali, Muslim Ali’s daughter said: “As some of you may have heard a taxi driver (my dad) was brutally attacked on Sunday morning in Cardiff, please keep him in your prayers as he is still in a critical condition.

“He has sustained a broken nose, lacerations to his left eye, fractures to his skull and bleeding in his brain and is still in a high care ward.

“My dad has been a taxi driver within Cardiff for the past 20 years and is known as a polite and humble gentleman by those that know him.

“His colleagues have set up a gofundme which we will be donating to a charity close to my dad’s heart any amount is appreciated if you would like to donate. The vile man who attacked my dad has been charged and is awaiting trial. Please tell your dad/brothers/husbands who are taxi drivers to stay safe. Please keep my dad in your prayers.”

The fundraiser has been organised by taxi drivers in Cardiff to show their unity and support for their colleague.

“This also serves as a reminder to all taxi drivers in the community to stay safe and vigilant as this tragic incident can happen to anyone. This has been set up following the family’s consent. The donations shall go towards charitable donations close to Mr Ali’s heart,” the fundraiser reads.
