If this fella and his firm are not fit to be a PSV operator, then I struggle to see how he and his firm can be a fit and proper taxi/PH driver, owner or operator.

Tributes have been paid to a popular taxi company boss who died suddenly at the age of 64.

Huw Edwards had run Tacsis Huw in the Caernarfon area for many years, and hundreds of messages of sympathy and support for his family have been posted online following his death.

His eldest son Robat said: "We are very proud of Huw and what he achieved in his life and he was a great father and a very special grandfather.

"We have received many many messages of sympathy and are aware of the support shown to us online and these are of great comfort to us."

In a poignant message posted online, Robat added that his father was "a little guy with a big heart" and said: "There is only one Huw Taxi."

In his own tribute to his father, Mr Edwards' son Dafydd said: "Heaven is a much richer place today. The best Father, Friend and Grandfather we could ever have had. (He has) left us far too soon."

Tacsis Huw carried hundreds of people around the Caernarfon area and further afield during a typical week, and many of the tributes posted online are from those who have benefitted from the service offered by Mr Edwards and his drivers.

Some said simply: "Cwsg yn dawel Huw." (Rest in Peace)

Many also spoke of the kindness extended to them by Mr Edwards.

You can leave messages of condolence in the comments section.

Singer Catrin Fro wrote: "Huw was my hero one night when I broke down on the way to a gig in Holyhead. He came down to see us for a trip out a week after. Never fear Huw is Here!"

Former Gwynedd councillor Dewi Lewis, of Penrhyndeudraeth, said: "He was here in Siop Dewi's almost every morning, usually to get a paper or something for someone who needed a helping hand.

"We're grateful for kind and helpful people like Huw. Thanks Huw, rest in peace."

Retired headteacher Ken Hughes said he had a "treasure trove" of Huw Taxi memories from when he was headmaster in Talysarn.

"Huw and the whole family were a great support to me," he said.

"I know from experience the longing for Huw will be great but the memories of him will be much greater."

Singer Geraint Løvgreen said: "Sad to hear that Huw has passed away. Always a gentleman and entertaining company. I will remember all the help and support over the years."

Pwllheli mayor Mici Plwm added: "Rest in peace Huw - everyone's friend and always so helpful. Huge loss."

For many years, Mr Edwards had been an integral part of Sgorio, the S4C programme which showed highlights of European football games on Monday evenings.

He would drive to Manchester airport on a regular basis to pick up video tapes and bring them back for editing in Caernarfon.

His cabs, and often Mr Edwards himself, would ferry well known television presenters around the area while they were filming programmes.

Journalist and broadcaster Lyn Ebeneser said he spent hours in his taxi while filming for Hel Straeon, a popular magazine programme in the 1990s.

He said: "Traveling with Huw in his taxi was always a pleasure and a privilege. His benevolences were undeniable. An incarnation of a true Welshman.

"I would like to sympathize with the family in their grief and loss."

Mr Edwards leaves his wife Enid, his sons Robat, Sion, Dafydd and Wil, and several grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Let's be generous and say he learnt from his mistakes and had turned over a new leaf.

I suppose none of us are perfect.

Problem with the way these things are often portrayed, particularly in the local press, and particularly after someone has died, is that the deceased is either the scum of the earth or the salt of the earth, with nothing much inbetween.

Call me a tad cynical, but the photos here (and video on the website) don't really tie in with the headline and narrative. Photos supplied by the family.

Family overwhelmed as Caernarfon comes to a standstill for Huw Taxi's final journey

https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north- ... l-22572923

Huw Edwards - known to generations of friends and passengers as Huw Taxi - died suddenly earlier this month at the age of 64

Hundreds lined the streets to bid an emotional farewell to hugely popular Caernarfon taxi boss Huw Edwards on Christmas Eve.

Known locally as Huw Taxi, people turned out in droves to pay their respects to the man who "knew everyone and was known by everyone."

Mr Edwards died suddenly earlier this month at the age of 64.

The funeral procession travelled from the Tacsis Huw depot on the Cibyn Industrial Estate, to Castle Square in Caernarfon, where the family were "blown away" by the number of people who had come to show their respects.

The town came to a standstill as friends, colleagues, and loyal customers lined the square, applauding as the funeral cortege passed.

Mr Edwards' eldest son, Robert said: "As the funeral procession drove through Caernarfon, we couldn't believe how many people there were, we've never seen anything like it.

"Everywhere we looked there were people, it was incredible.

"We would like to thank all of our family, friends and colleagues for their support during this time, as a family we can't thank people enough for the support and kindness they have shown us."

The funeral procession continued to Bro Silyn, Talysarn where Mr Edwards had lived with his family years ago.

In a touching tribute, Bro Silyn residents had organised for a wreath spelling 'Huw Tacsis' to be crafted, which was taken to Capel Glanrhyd in Dinas, Caernarfon for the funeral service.

The service was conducted by Karen Owen with heartfelt tributes paid by Dafydd Owen, Arwyn Herald, Emyr Lloyd Jones and poet Meirion MacIntyre Huws during the funeral.

Mr Edwards was then laid to rest in Llandwrog's Brynrodyn Cemetery.
