CCTV released of man sought over assault outside Shropshire taxi office

Image

A man is being sought by police over an assault outside a taxi office which left another man with facial injuries.

The attack on the 27-year-old victim took place outside Now Cars, in the Castle Gates area of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, at around 4am on Thursday, December 9 last year.

The suspect left the scene after the assault, West Mercia Police said. The force has released CCTV footage of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the violent incident.

He is described as white, in his early 20s, standing at 5ft 10in tall, with a 'green khaki puffa style jacket'.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We are also asking for anyone who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed the incident, or have dash cam footage, to please get in touch.

"Anyone with any information or footage is asked to visit www.westmercia.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/ quoting incident 22/110207/21 of December 9, 2021.

"Alternatively, if you have information but don’t feel comfortable speaking to police, you can speak to the independent charity Crimestoppers. It is 100 per cent anonymous, they never ask your name and they cannot trace your call or IP address. You can contact them online or by calling 0800 555 111."

What a daft way for the Birmingham Mail to present a photo of a suspect. Not only is it too small, but the other image issued by police hasn't been used, but is in my opinion possibly the better one in terms of IDing the individual.

Below are the official photos on the West Mercia Police website.

Kudos, though, to Now Cars for avoiding the use of the t-word on their office signage. 'Private hire office', indeed. And West Mercia Police also avoid the t-word in their press release, but guess who uses it on their website - they can't even get churnalism right

Also, not sure if it's a browser thing or a website thing, but as presented on the Birmingham Mail's website the graphic in Sussex's post looks even smaller on there than it does on here. Although it may look different depending on the browser and device you happen to be using etc:

And, to be fair, I've described the chap in the photo as a suspect, when he's simply someone who 'may have vital information' about the incident

Note also how the Birmingham Mail connects the person in the photo more directly with the incident than the official police press release. The Mail doesn't actually call him a suspect, but implies that he is, while the police are a bit less direct in that regard. Although, obviously, everyone knows that he is very probably the main suspect 8-[

It would have been nice if the police actually released the CCTV of the incident, rather than just an image or two of someone of interest.

But hopefully those images should help get that person of interest.
