A WOMAN punched a taxi driver after falling asleep in his car.

Claire Reid, 29, lashed out at Gary Christie in Glasgow’s Springburn on May 9, 2021.

Mr Christie had attempted to rouse Reid - who was drunk - before she lunged at him.

The first offender later spat at an officer who was able to dodge the spittle.

She pled guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Mr Christie and PC Kirsty McGlynn.

The court heard Mr Christie picked up Reid and another man at 4.50am.

Reid entered the car while “heavily intoxicated” with an injured bleeding hand.

She then fell asleep during the journey.

The man momentarily exited the taxi in order to pay the taxi before returning.

Prosecutor Emma Baker said: Mr Christie attempted to rouse Miss Reid to get her to exit the taxi.

“When she woke up she immediately became volatile and lunged at him from the back of the taxi.

“She punched Mr Christie on the head.”

A 999 call was made as the man dragged Reid away.

Police later caught up with them and arrested her.

Miss Baker added: “She spat in the direction of the constable who had to take evasive action to avoid the spittle making contact with her.”

The man told officers that Reid had earlier woke up and was confused.

He also stated that he did not believe that she meant to punch the driver.

Reid was cautioned and charged then replied: “I’m sorry I spat.”

Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Iain Fleming.

Reid, of Springburn, was granted bail meantime.
