What's the betting this isn't plated?

And it should be - it's just a sales pitch, like a free 'taxi' home from the pub.

Hearse turns into 'Tombstone Taxi' offering free rides to people in Newcastle

You may never have thought that you would be alive by the time you're driven around in a hearse - but that's exactly what's happening to some taxi passengers in Newcastle this week.

A 22-foot hearse is offering free lifts to people in the city on Tuesday and Wednesday (May 25) as part of a unique initiative to get people talking about death. Passengers hopping into the 'Tombstone Taxi' will be asked to have a chat about what they’d like to happen when they die and how they want to be remembered.

The unique idea comes from the life insurance company DeadHappy which is on a mission t o change attitudes around death. The firm wants to encourage people to plan for death as opposed to ignoring it.

Eddy Edwards from Dead Happy said: “Too often, death is viewed as a taboo subject that shouldn’t be spoken about, and our mission is to challenge that every day. If we don’t talk about death, then we simply avoid planning for the unavoidable.

"None of us want to end up leaving behind a burden of complicated decisions for our loved ones and not be remembered in the ways we might’ve hoped for."

Anyone who takes up the offer of a lift in the hearse will also be able to take part in a scavenger hunt to find 'tiny tombstones' around the city that poke fun at what else we might grieve in our lifetime, from our social lives after having children, through to our dignity after letting loose on the dance floor.

When people stumble upon one, they can then scan the QR code to open up a page of clues to find the others dotted around the city.

Eddy from Dead Happy continued: "We’re not out to offend anyone. We simply want to emphasise the importance of living lives we’ll be proud of when the day does come, and to sort out our affairs whilst we still have a chance. As it happens, converting our hearse into a Tombstone Taxi for the day and having people hunt around for tiny tombstones certainly turned heads and it definitely got people thinking and talking about death."

A chap in Lincoln used to use a vehicle similar to this as a limo. I wonder if it is the same vehicle.
