Photo apparently taken in 2015, in case anyone thinking he doesn't look 28 :?

On the subject of confusing numbers, not clear precisely where the £1.50 figure in the article comes from, but suffice to say it looks like the row was over a couple of pounds :-o

Monkey dust 'addict' Jake Bull robbed a taxi driver at knifepoint - in a row over £1.50. The 28-year-old had got in the Lucky Seven taxi with his partner and another woman and paid the driver £8.

But after the journey the defendant said he had paid £10 and demanded more change. When the driver refused, the defendant pulled a knife from his waistband and said, 'Give me back my money'. The terrified cabbie feared for his life and handed over £8.

Police found the defendant three days later at a Hanley hotel and recovered a knife and a push dagger from his room. It transpired that Bull had earlier breached the terms of his sex offenders' registration by failing to fully live with his mum on Zamenhof Grove, in Smallthorne.

Now Bull has been jailed for four years and two months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. The taxi incident happened in Burslem on May 9.

Prosecutor Julian Taylor said: "The driver asked for the £8 fare. The defendant paid with coins. He asked the driver to go to two houses and wait. The fare was cheaper than £8. The defendant said he had paid £10 and wanted more change back. When the driver said, 'No', the defendant produced a knife and said, 'Give me back my money'. He thought he was going to be stabbed so he gave him £8 back."

Bull, of May Street, Burslem, pleaded guilty to breaching the notification requirements of the sex offenders' register; robbery; possessing a knife; and possessing an offensive weapon in private. He pleaded guilty on the basis that he produced the knife to get £1.50 back.

He added: "He is ashamed, embarrassed, and believes he was pathetic in the way he was living his life. When he went in custody he was under 11 stone. He is now nearly 15 stone within the space of a few months. He does express remorse."

Judge Sally Hancox said the defendant had become addicted to monkey dust.

She told Bull: "You produced the knife from your waistband. You held it towards the driver and told him to give you back your money. Nobody gets their change back by producing a knife and threatening somebody.

"They are taxi drivers because they need to work. They provide a valuable and much-needed service in the city of Stoke-on-Trent. They must be protected.

"I accept you are sorry for what went on. Nobody should be going about their business armed with a knife. I accept you were significantly addicted to monkey dust at the time."

I think most would learn.

Going to jail for one and a half million pounds might be worth a few years if caught (to some), but not £1.50.
