just recieved dundee councils accesssible taxis giidance note which has been sent to everyone on the taxi waiting list it names 11 acceptable vehicles
tx1 and 11
peugeot e7
vw sharan
vw caravelle unique
mercedes uniquecb
peugeot eurobus
fiat freedom
puegeot european
fiat eurocab
mercedes eurocab
but no mention of doblos i phoned liscensing and they said you cant put one on yet two weeks ago they said you can this is going to be a blow for those who have already purchased one thankfully im not one but i have seen some brand new one,s sitting outside drivers houses,
the letter also points out you can apply for liscences in the name of a company or partnership something that a lot in the trade have been arguing couldn,t be done ,the doblo refusal will also be a kick in the teeth for a lot of the recently granted applications as more than half were refused credit to buy euro 7/buses ,

Seems like the usual shambles.

A newspaper article a few weeks ago said

As well as the Volkswagen Transporter, the vehicles approved by the Dundee licensing committee as being suitable as disabled access taxis once properly converted are the Volkswagen Caravelle, Fiat Doblo, Fiat Scudo, Mercedes Traveliner, the Euro 7 taxi, an the TXII, which does not need special Vehicle Certification Agency approval as it is manufactured as a disabled access taxi.

Looks like they dropped some and added a few more.

It would seem that there is still a little part of Dundee officialdom that can't quite give up the restricted numbers ethos.

For years they use numbers, now they use other methods.

For the record, do they allow the Fiat things to be used as non-WAVs?

I know of one council that allows the 'Fiat things' to be licensed as saloons, but is very reticent in allowing them to be licensed as WAVs.

You could say they might have missed the Disability Act.

So whats the problem then. if they are allowed to run without wheelchairs then surely its better for the wheelchair people if they are able to pick them up.

isnt that discrimination?

Yes Mr Cgull, it is discrimination, and those empowered with the decisions that effect our daily lives get it wrong time and time again.

Not all the time, but more times than perhaps they should.

I must work in a lucky area because my council dont seem too bad.

But then again i got my plate for nothing and they still restrict. So i cant really complain. Even if i do understand if the lads who dont have them moan.

Mr Cgull, I think you should start your own drivers association, because alas, only a certain few of us can see both sides of the coin.

Or even better start up your own taxi site, although I suppose if everyone loved one another, it would be as boring as hell.

But a lot easier to run.
