Dramatic moment taxi went up in flames on Knowsley Expressway

A road was closed while emergency services battled a burning taxi on Knowsley Expressway.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police were called to the busy dual carriageway near Tarbock Green just before 3pm on Monday, September 4, following reports of a vehicle fire. Once emergency services arrived a short time later they found a black people carrier taxi well alight on the inside lane of the carriageway.

One firefighter used a hose to battle the blaze. Emergency services blocked the carriageway while they dealt with the incident.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service attended an incident on Knowsley Express Way, Tarbock Green, on September 4. On arrival, crews found a taxi well alight.

"One firefighter wearing breathing apparatus began fighting the fire under general observation using a hose reel jet. Knowsley Express Way was blocked during firefighting activity, but lane two was made live upon the arrival of Merseyside Police, who assisted in managing traffic.

"The fire was soon extinguished and crews left the scene at 4.02pm."

The ECHO understands nobody was injured in the incident.
