Taxi drivers in Lincoln are calling for Lincolnshire County Council to address the issues concerning a bus stop in Lincoln city centre. They have said the Lincoln Central Station bus stand has caused several near misses with buses due to not being wide enough.

Accessible Bus Stop Guidance suggests a width of 3m for optimal safety but the Lincoln Central Station stop measures only 1.84m across. Taxi drivers have also said the placement of the bus stop obstructs their view as they exit the car park outside the train station and increases the risk of accidents.

During busy periods buses can also be seen parking in the taxi rank directly in front of the bus stand which further hinders drivers' visibility. One concerned driver, who preferred to remain nameless, said: "It shouldn’t be here; it makes no sense. When they’re parked in our rank, it’s dangerous. I nearly had an accident once. As soon as I pulled out of the car park, another bus emerged from behind the one parked in the taxi rank."

Another driver said: "You have to edge out a lot and hope the other person sees you." The drivers are now collectively calling on Lincolnshire County Council to "sort it out" and address the issues.

A spokesperson from Lincolnshire County Council said: "The marking within the layby on St Mary’s Street is permitted within the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 (Part 5 of Scheduled 7) as a variation of the standard bus stop clearway marking. The marking is legitimate and remains enforceable."
