Not saying there's an error here, but the single basic fare they quote is totally out of kilter with the headline - the three-mile run quoted is actually just going up 4.5%...
And you don't even have to actually crunch the numbers to conclude it doesn't look right.
And even with the increase, £8 or so for a three-mile run isn't much
Clock ticking on 14.9 per cent Borders taxi fare hike consultationhttps://www.bordertelegraph.com/news/24 ... sultation/THE clock is ticking on a public consultation launched over a proposal to hike taxi fares in the Borders by almost 15 per cent.Scottish Borders Council reviews fares every 18 months and must consult with operators and members of the public on any proposals to change the tariff.
The council uses a formula which was agreed between the trade, the traffic commissioner and the council to determine variations in taxi rates.
The last review was concluded in August 2019.
A further review was due to be held in 2021, however operational pressures and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic delayed the review.
As part of the review process, SBC is required to invite all licensed taxi operators and members of the public to comment on the draft proposal to increase taxi fares by 14.9 per cent, with views to be included in a report to elected members.
If implemented a three-mile taxi journey before 10pm with one to four passengers would increase from £7.80 to £8.15.
The consultation ends on July 21. To take part go to:
