Taxi driver left with 'one percent chance of walking' after crash

https://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/l ... t-29693302

A Huntingdon taxi driver's family has described how he has been left with a "broken spine" and a "one percent chance of walking again" after a crash at Huntingdon Railway Station last Friday (August 2). Ricky Harold, who has served Huntingdon as a taxi driver for more than 20 years, was one of three people injured in the incident.

Police and paramedics were called to the A1307 opposite the station at 12.45am on Friday. A black Audi A2 struck a black Mercedes C350 taxi that was parked at the bus stop opposite the station. The driver of the Audi, a 23-year-old man from Peterborough, was arrested on suspicion of drug and drink driving.

In a statement on a GoFundMe page set up for Ricky Harold, his family describes how he was parked in a layby waiting for his next passenger on Friday (August 2) when a car crashed into him, pushing him 20 metres up the road. The statement continues: "The impact was devastating.

"Emergency services had to cut our dad from the wreckage, and he is currently in the hospital undergoing surgery for a broken spine. Doctors have informed us that he has a mere one percent chance of walking again.

"This tragic event has turned our world upside down. Our dad is the heart and soul of our family, always putting others before himself. Now, he faces a long and uncertain road to recovery."

The GoFundMe page, which can be found here, has raised £2,290 out of a £3,000 target. The family says the money will be used to cover his immediate financial commitments while he is unable to work, including living expenses and support for his recovery.
