He's got a reasonably short first name, but good luck with spelling it properly unless it's spelt out letter by letter :-o

Witney man sentenced for threatening driver and damaging taxi

https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/25399 ... ging-taxi/

A west Oxfordshire man has avoided jail despite threatening behaviour towards a taxi driver.

Szabolcs Pap, of Farmington Drive, Witney, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on August 15.

Pap, 39, was charged with threatening taxi driver Waqas Ahmed with a knife and damaging the taxi, belonging to Royal Cars, in Littlemore on October 22 last year.

He was also charged with causing damage to a traffic bollard and using threatening behaviour towards Osaman Asif on the same occasion.

On the court record, it said Pap used 'abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause that person to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used against him by any person, or to provoke the immediate use of unlawful violence by him whereby that person was likely to believe that such violence would be used, or it was likely that such violence would be provoked'.

He was handed a 12-month community order and must complete 50 hours of unpaid work within 12 months.

Oxon man gets off lightly for threatening driver with knife

It's not as bad as it seems.

If the idiot had a knife and was threatening the driver, then he would be in custody now. Which leads me to believe it was only words he was threatening the driver with.

Well maybe he was just charged re the knife, and not convicted in that regard. But I'd guess 99% of readers would assume from the article's portrayal that he was 'done' for the knife threat [-(

That certainly sounds like a plausible scenario, Edders. But, again, if that's the case then the press portrayal here is at least a tad misleading.

And we should await Sussex's expertise on the issue [-(

He was charged with threatening someone with a knife, which isn't the same as being in possession of a knife. There was no knife, just a threat of one. If there was a knife, then we are in the same situation (although a lot more serious) as edders mate, who received a suspended sentence.

Same as thugs often threaten to kill you, when they have no intention of actually doing so.
