It is understood that the assault was allegedly carried out by a taxi driver, leaving a man with facial injuries, as well as damage to his motorbike.
A spokesperson for the police force said: “We received a report around 12.37am of an assault in Cowley Road in Oxford.
“No arrests have been made and our investigation is ongoing.
"We would ask anyone with information to contact us online or via 101 quoting the reference 43250512907.”
It is understood the taxi driver had a licence approved by Oxford City Council.
A spokesperson for the authority said: "We have not received any notification regarding this incident.
"If further details are provided, we will follow the usual compliance process to ensure public safety.
"In addition, we maintain a joint operating framework with Thames Valley Police to ensure that the necessary information is shared in support of any ongoing police investigation."
