An Edinburgh Uber driver furiously gave chase to a gang of teens after they allegedly launched stones at his car while his family was inside. Adil Khan, 37, from Pilton, was driving along Pennywell Road with his wife, and two kids, aged eight and five, when the attack took place.
Adil said around eight or nine youths were standing outside the Greggs on Monday April 6 when they began to launch items at his car, denting his door. Angered by their actions, the dad began to chase the group.
He believes residents are living in fear from feral teens. Adil claims he and his colleagues are now apprehensive to take on jobs that travel along Pennywell Road after facing multiple attacks which have damaged their vehicles.
He said: “About eight or nine teens began throwing stones and balls at my car while I had my wife and two young kids in the car. This is the third time I have been attacked along Pennywell Road by this group outside of Greggs.
“They dented my car and everything. I got out and chased them because they could have caused an accident that hurt my children.
“I am so angry. I was on hold for so long trying to report it to the police but I just gave up because I don’t think they will do anything.
“They also dented my car door during a previous attack. If they damage my car and I can’t drive it, then I lose my ability to work. It’s my responsibility to repair the damage as well.”
Adil said colleagues have had their cars egged as well as their windows smashed and doors dented during previous attacks. He added he has even witnessed buses being targeted along Pennywell Road.
He added: “The area is out of control and it is getting worse. They have tried to make the area nice, I bought my home here three years ago because we have a library and new art centre.
“Everything looks nice but now we are all living in fear of these teenagers. People are frightened to go to work.
“I know Pennywell Road well and used to feel confident but now I get worried if a job comes up in the area. I’m apprehensive to take it.
“I’m very upset. These teenagers are bad people.”
