No doubt a very scary incident.

And will cost a bit to get it sorted.

But doesn't look like the worst of damage, and not sure he needs to take a fortnight off to get it fixed.

Not sure what the council would think of this. But if I was an LO, on the basis of the photos I'd allow the driver to continue working until it's fixed.

Edinburgh youths 'launch brick' at Uber from bridge as driver left 'terrified'

'Youth antisocial behaviour is everywhere and gangs are running wild across the area'

An Edinburgh private hire driver was just moments from disaster after a brick was supposedly launched at his car from a bridge above Crewe Road North. The incident took place at 8.20pm on Tuesday April 14 and has left the driver shaken.

Liam shared images of the aftermath of an alleged attack which appears to show a large dent on the bonnet of his private hire vehicle. Police were called to the area but it is understood the gang of youths fled the area.

The driver has described his ‘panic’ as the brick rained down on his car. He said he feared the outcome could have been a lot worse.

He said: “It happened while I was driving along Crewe Road North towards the roundabout. A group of youths on the bridge above were throwing stones or bricks down at passing vehicles.

“Unfortunately, my car was struck, resulting in several areas of significant damage on my vehicle bonnet. I was panicking.

“I couldn't stop the car immediately as I was driving toward the roundabout with traffic. What if the object hit my front windscreen with a passenger inside and I lost control of the vehicle?

“That could be a far worse situation than what unfolded.”

Liam’s vehicle suffered significant damage to his vehicle bonnet and he has been left with a hefty bill to fix and out of work for two weeks. He added this is not the first time this sort of incident has happened.

He said: “This repair will cost me a fortune, I’m unable to work until the vehicle gets fixed. I feel unsafe in the community that I have lived in for the past 13 years.

“I feel threatened. I’m scared thinking about going to work, during work and after work on the way home. This is not the first time either, I have been targeted a month ago on March 14 on West Granton Road outside the Post Office at Morrisons.

“A group of youths threw stones at my vehicle which resulted in a deep dent on my door. I contacted the police but they do nothing.

“Youth antisocial behaviour is everywhere and gangs are running wild across the area and on public transport. Nothing is getting better, it’s out of control and getting worse.

“It is scary. For private hire or taxi drivers, our vehicles are not just a vehicle, it's our livelihood, the impact to our income is more than you think.

"The repair cost, if we claim insurance, we lose the no claim bonus, and our premiums will go up. This antisocial behaviour has to stop before an incident causes serious injury."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On the evening of Tuesday April 14, 2026, we received reports of items being thrown at vehicles from a bridge in the Crewe Road area of Edinburgh.

“Officers attended and a search of the area was carried out. There were no reported injuries.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting reference 3341 of 14 April, 2026.”

Photos here. Maybe it's worse than it looks.

But certainly, on the basis of the photos, I've seen cars working for weeks and even months with worse damage than this, and with the council's endorsement. Although maybe the council here in Fife now would take a different approach to some cars that have been allowed to keep working in the past :?

Although not sure what Edinburgh City Council would think of this, specifically.

But if the damage is superficial, wouldn't it have been better just to keep working rather than splattering it all over the press, and maybe draw the council's attention to it?

Of course, you can't blame the driver for kicking up a stink about it, and going to the press. On the other hand... :?
