Getting home after a sold-out Hydro gig could soon become a lot safer thanks to a major shake-up by Glasgow Taxis.

The taxi operator has announced a boost in passenger safety measures, including more marshals on duty at key event ranks to ensure safe journeys home.

The marshals are trained and PVG-checked, and their main job is to make sure people can get into taxis quickly and safely, especially after busy events.

Glasgow Taxis chairman Dougie McPherson said: "At Glasgow Taxis, we believe that customer service excellence starts with one non-negotiable priority: safety.

"That is why we are doubling down on our commitment to our passengers with the addition of two new, experienced marshals to expand our team.

"These professionals play a vital role in ensuring the public is looked after before and after major events, reinforcing our 24/7 mission to provide the safest possible experience for everyone enjoying Glasgow’s vibrant event scene."

Since the start of 2026, Glasgow Taxis has supported more than 30,000 journeys from the OVO Hydro alone, helping concertgoers get home safely after a night out.

The company now has eight marshals on its team, including new recruits Robert Malcolm and Stephen Munn.

They join John Thomson, John Wolfson, Jim Ross, Jamie Lauder, Stephen McMillan and William Kemp.

Mr McPherson said: "Safety is woven into every mile we travel and with card payment facilities now standard in every cab, 100% of our drivers holding PVG scheme membership, and seamless feedback accessible via QR codes in every vehicle, we are elevating the standard of safe, reliable
travel across the city."

All Glasgow Taxis vehicles now accept card payments, and every driver is a member of the PVG scheme managed by Disclosure Scotland.

This focus on safety reflects feedback gathered through regular customer surveys and feedback forms.

The area near the Hydro is pandemonium/gridlock when a large event spills. I think GTL finances the marshals in-house, so at least they're trying.
