Direct link to the Facebook reel at the bottom of this post - I suppose there's no actual direct evidence he was watching the video, as opposed to a video showing on a mounted phone.

And the video does seem surprisingly brief :-o

But, either way, self-evidently a totally daft thing to do ](*,)

But lots of high dudgeon from the councillor here, and the usual 'working closely'/safety is paramount-style stuff from the council.

I mean, you'd think these people had never actually driven (or been driven) on the roads, and seen what goes on as a matter of routine. In fact, maybe they haven't

Taxi driver filmed 'watching YouTube video' while driving vulnerable child to school

Investigation launched into 'deepy concerning' footage that is 'not safe' or 'acceptable'.

A taxi driver was filmed "watching a YouTube video" while driving a vulnerable child to school.

Flintshire County Council has launched an investigation after the "deeply concernning" footage was shared with a county councillor Andrew Parkhurst.

Cllr Parkhurst said the child had additional learning needs and was being transported to a school in the county and that children must be protected on their journeys to and from school.

The video shows a YouTube clip being played on a mobile phone while the vehicle was being driven.

Cllr Parkhurst, who posted the footage on Facebook, said: "I have been sent a shocking video. It appears to show a Flintshire taxi driver watching YouTube while driving a vulnerable child with additional learning needs to school.

"This is not safe. This is not acceptable. Children must be protected.

"I have asked the council for answers. I want to know how this was allowed to happen. I want to know what will change to keep our children safe.

"The council says there is no sign that this happens a lot. But if this child had not filmed it, no one would have known.

"So I need to find out: Was this a one‑off? Or are other children being put in danger on the way to or from school?

A council spokesperson confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the footage. The location where the incident happened has not been revealed.

Katie Wilby, Chief Officer for Streetscene and Transportation, said: “Flintshire County Council takes all safeguarding allegations extremely seriously. The safety and well-being of all children using our school transport services is our absolute priority.

“The video that has been shared is deeply concerning, and we want to assure everyone that the council treats any potential breach of safeguarding and road safety with the utmost seriousness.

“We can confirm that an immediate, thorough investigation is underway. We are working closely with the relevant transport provider and taking all necessary steps to ensure our strict safety standards are upheld.

“As investigations are ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”

Think they need to hang, draw, and quarter the driver.

Nothing less is required for the heinous crime of forgetting to turn his phone off whilst driving.

And as for the absolute overreaction from that councillor, words fail me.
