Parts and labour are, but gas is a consumer product, so I am presuming you will have to pay for that [gas]. anything from 60 to a 100 quid. but if it's parts failure allowing leakage, then no, if its just gas gone down, and system wants regassing, yes.

I'm going out now for a few quid, just turning the old aircon on

you have to remember aircon should be used not only in this type of heat but you should run aircon at least every fortnight for 20 mins or so, just to keep everything working and lubed up, this lubricates the valves and seals, failing to do that could give a failure when you need it, gas can be lost at the rate of 10% pear year or even more if not used

oh and your aircon filter needs changing at least twice a year, well mine does.

I read recently that at least once a week you should run it at minimum temperature for at least 10 mins, then at maximum another ten. Even in winter.
