HEADLINE: Smoking fine

An off-duty taxi driver was fined for flouting the smoking ban in Scotland after letting his daughter light up in the car he uses for work. Robert Cowan, 61, from Tayport, Fife, was fined £ 200 and his daughter, Amanda, given a £ 50 penalty, which Dundee City Council agreed to change to a warning after an appeal.

that case was months ago, all the cabbies are back to fag in face whilst driving etc, even the pubs say they haven,t seen the wardens for some time , maybe it was just scare tactics?

I think the case was reported again because the appeal had been decided, and the daughter was given a warning instead of a fine but the driver's fine was upheld.

Funny that it wasnt reported in the courier though because they made a big enough song and dance about it at the time.

Incidentally, it was reported at the time that it was a Dundee taxi driver, but in fact he drives in St Andrews on a Fife plate and just happened to be in Dundee when he got caught.

i was told by the top dog at townhouse kirkcaldy that the only way round smoking while using the taxi for private use was to remove the roofsign, the plates and the meter :? hardly worth the effort on the weekly shopping run
