Ok GBC what bridge has a taxis only lane and should the driver from up here challenged the fine given that the car was not a black cab but was fully licenced

All of these replies miss the real point of course.

Which is, if we're all doing the same simple job, driving customers from a to b, then why isn't our government insisting on the common higher standard of the knowledge test and quality controls for all hire vehicles?

Couldn't be anything to do with graft, corruption and brown envelopes could it?

Many London bridges have 'Bus Lanes'. These are for buses, licensed London taxis and cycles. Your chum probably got done for using the bus lane. You could try challenging the decision, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a result.

As Travis says, lots of them.

But, if the chap was driving a TAXI, and was licensed as such, he should appeal.

None of the Blue signs says London Taxi's only, they mearly state 'Taxi'.

Say your a 'tjechter' from the borders (pronounced chookter) that should suffice for a defence.

I must put in my tuppence worth again for this ‘old’ subject.
When I first got my new toy a Tomtom Go when they first came on the market. I would play with it, (the Tom Tom) and I had a job from Waterloo Station to Geraldine road Wandsworth. Now everyone knows that it is a straight route. (Check you’re A2Z). Out of the Station into York road. The TomTom says turn left into Westminster bridge road??? I ignore this obviously and continue into Lambeth palace road. Next the Sat nav says turn right over Lambeth Bridge???? What!. Forward onto Albert embankment of course. Around the Vauxhall one-way system onto Wandsworth road. I think the TomTom has now got the idea. The rest as I said is straightforward. I often wonder what way the Sat-nav would have taken me. Maybe one day I will try it.
I do carry the TomTom with me but it is not mounted on the dash and I very rarely need to use it. Only for those DX type jobs.
