HEADLINE: Letter: YourSay - Second class city
BYLINE: Mrs A Griffiths
IF BIRMINGHAM thinks it merits the title of Second City, it really needs to get its act together. Earlier this week I took a group of elderly disabled on a day trip to Blackpool. We returned to Northfield at 8.45pm and it took one and three quarter hours to get a taxi to take a wheelchair-bound lady home.
Every number we tried told us they didn't work at night (are the disadvantaged not allowed a social life then?). One company's method was to put it on the system and hope that someone calls in and accepts the job - hardly the most efficient system.
It was fortunate that four of us were prepared to wait with the lady until the problem was solved. No wonder everything goes to London if this is the best service Birmingham can offer.
