Not guilty, the only involvement I had was with Warrington licensing, The Solicitor for Pink Ladies, and Tina Dutton. I don't think I was involved in any other way apart from supplying the case law and the comment that went with it.

I think the guys in Warrington and those areas that were effected by the Pink ladies situation deserve a lot of credit and of course those people or organisations the DfT referred to without actually mentioning names.

I forgot to mention those licensing officers who obviously played a major role in bringing this about.

I suspect there are many people who can take credit if the exemption is killed off.

But no where near as many people who will claim the credit for it.

I'm very surprised however that the NTA or the TGWU haven't seized on the opportunity of the Road Safety bill to amend some of the more outdated and unnecessary legislation from both acts that Govern us.

The T&G are only concerned with plate values and turning-circles. And I doubt any of them would make the Road Safety bill.

Although the banning of the latter would most probably help.

You want to ban the road safety bill? WOW!

I forwarded the DFT letter to the STF, if they do whats right they'll pass it on to the relevant people

Perhaps, but I think the STF are pretty clueless about stuff like that.

When the OFT had their investigation and the Scottish Executive consulted on the licensing legislation about three years ago I brought the contract hire exemption to their attention, but the Executive just ignored it and the OFT didn't cover peripheral vehicles at all (at least the Executive mentioned strecth limos etc).

Some of the taxi offices in St Andrews have been using unplated vehicles for years and at some times like during the Open and the Dunhill cup these vehicles have possiblly exceeded the amount of their plated cars.

Some of these are used all the time, but others were just private cars beloning to part-time drivers etc which were wheeled out whenever a big event was on.

Another firm has generally operated a handful of unplated cars, and its proprietor was quite close to the chairman of our local trade association. The association was moaning in the local paper about unplated cars from Dundee doing runs for the Student's Union Travel Association, so I put it to him that his mate's firm was running unplated cars. Ah he said, but they only do work for the Old Course Hotel so they are exempt by virtue of the Act.

But the cars were being advertised on the firm's webpage, as they are to this day. But he had no answer to this, and neither does the Scottish Executive it seems. But it's easier to turn a blind eye than actually do something.

The STF are only interested in ensuring local authorities do not remove number limits on taxi licences & the premiums that follow from that

Expecting them to be interested in removing the 24 hour hire rule is expecting too much

Whats the STF position on unlicensed vehicles such as limos & so-called 'executive chauffeurs' ?

A quick search on the Yellow Pages website found 98 results for chauffeur hire in Glasgow, how many of them operate on 24 contracts ?

http://www.yell.com/ucs/UcsSearchAction ... w&x=32&y=8

If I can find companies operating without licenses shouldn't the STF be doing something about L.A. enforcement ?

After all these unlicensed cars are taking business away from their members
