Taxi Driver Online

On Fri night police where doing spot checks and one owner driver was red sticker-ed for having 2 worn tyres, they said to the driver that the tread depth was 1.8 and that was illegal on a taxi?????? and the minimum was 2mil so on Sat morn he got 2 new ones and had to have an MOT just to get back on the road,
I told him that the legal min was 1.6 and he should have told them to get stuffed even the tyre company told him that, Or is there something some of us should know about by way of a law change

I cannot say I've heard of a law change.
