Stanmore: driver dragged from taxi

A TAXI driver was assaulted, dragged from his cab and robbed as he dropped passengers off in Stanmore.

Two men in their twenties punched the 23-year-old driver in the head and demanded money from him during the attack in the early hours of Sunday, September 16.

When the driver refused to hand over any cash, one of the men dragged him out of his taxi into the road and stole his car and house keys.

The attack happened in Morecombe Gardens, Stanmore, at 2.15am. The driver had picked up the two men with two women outside the offices of Global Cars, in Locket Road, Wealdstone. He dropped off one of the women at Stanmore Station, in London Road, and then drove to Morecombe Gardens.

The first man, who was sitting in the passenger seat, punched the driver in the face and the second man punched the driver repeatedly on the back of the head. Then he dragged the driver out of the car and robbed him.

The two men and the woman ran off after the attack towards Tintangel Avenue, Stanmore. The driver was taken to Northwick Park hospital, but his injuries were not serious.

A spokesman for Global Cars has informed Taxi driver Online that the police have today arrested two people in connection with the incident.
