So, how does a cap benefit drivers or customers. With taxi owners asking the council to let them buy and sell taxis, aren't they just cranking up a vested interest. Drivers pay higher rentals because of the shortage created. Customers pay higher tariffs. If I'm wrong, why won't they tell me?

Well, no-one in Edinburgh listens to him seriously anymore,

He must be trying to find an audience in Dundee.

Strikes me as a bit of a cheek, someone from Edinburgh telling taxi drivers in Dundee what's good for them.
He seems to think that you are all too stupid to decide your own path.
He has said as much.

Ok then. So, tell me where I'm wrong.

I say that you are working a selfish greedy vested interest that is gonna crank up rentals dor drivers, hike tariffs for customers and mean that anyone wanting to operate their own cab is gonna have to pay a false plate value.

Tell me where I'm wrong.

I say that fixing the cap will not make it easier for cabbies to make a living, it will cement the current poor level of work because rather than force people out of the trade through market pressure so that their work can be re-distributd, the lure of a false plate value accruing will keep the numbers high and the work per cab low.

Tell me what part of this is wrong.

I say that a trade Union like UNITE by cranking up vested interests and working against workers' interests and the common good is a fundamental breach of everything that trades unions were formed for.

Tell me where I'm wrong.

I say that the restriction of taxis causes people to look to alternatives and can lead to vulnerable members of the public being drawn into unlicensed vehicles, pointed to by the Best Practice Guide, and they can come to harm.

Tell me where I'm wrong.

You and your pals are quick to say I'm wrong, but you seem unable or unwilling to say how and where I'm wrong.

So, go on, tell me.

I know that you think dundee and aberdeen drivers are all stupid and need your help.

But none of them are so stupid as not to realise what a gibbering idiot you are.

This is a text I received today from a guy who managed to sell out last October. “ A Taxi driver mate of mine went to the job centre today and met another driver in there!”

Now when you consider that Edinburgh has been restricted since the early 1990s. It makes you wonder what Dundee expects from restriction, possibly more private hire perhaps? :?

Gary, they probably hope to get a fair share of what work there is.

The problem in Edinburgh is the way plates are distributed and not the amount.

Rentals are too high and a lot of plate holders are simply vehicle rental companies where the holder does not drive at all.

I don't believe removing the cap will do any good. I believe the whole system needs starting afresh.

I know you're primary 5 material, nut tell us all how putting a cap on is gonna help drivers and customers in Dundee, how is it gonna redistribute work?

If you had any success in Edinburgh then people outside Edinburgh just might want your view, but as you have had none they don't.

How many disabled wheelchair passengers use cabs on a daily / weekly basis?? I bet you can count on one hand how many use cabs.

IMO there's no need for a 100% WAV fleet anywhere in the country.

Of course, everyone could afford to go WAV if they didn't have to pay blood money to the cartel to buy into the illusion.

That's what putting the cap on in Dundee is gonna bring about. I'm surprised that the council in Dundee would go down this route. I can't believe it doesn't know that what they're doing is appealable even under the CGSA.

Simple fact is if Dundee decide to return to the past, and join the minority of councils with a cap, they must look forward to the consequences of trying to put the genie back in the bottle.

Cranking up vested private interests wll come with a considerable public price.
