A driver in our district gets called in for overcharging X 4 and driving in an erratic manner along a pedestrian area of town nearly colliding with a pedestrian. Reported for driving while using his mobile phone, driving with no hands etc etc.

The Council were going to let him off until somoene got in touch with them and quoted Section 52 of the Road Safety act and the Councils stance last year when 12 drivers were suspended for over ranking. :-" :-" :-" :-"

He's suspended for 4 weeks as from the 27th of December. :D

If its an immediate suspension, and the bloke is a supposed menace, why wait till the 27th ?

Love to know what act gives them powers to suspend as a means of punishment. [-(

But if he receives a suspension then it might make him mend his ways, thus while he's currently fit and proper, he won't be by the 27th, but might be four weeks later? :-s

Exactly, but then what can one expect from this shower of s**t.

If the fella is a danger than what is he doing driving a cab now? :?

Well I can kind of see the logic in that a suspension could 'make' a driver fit and proper, but not the bit about, er, suspending the suspension until the 27th.

Perhaps the thinking is that if he missed out on the Christmas rush then it would make him worse rather than rehabilitate him, a bit like the argument that a prison sentence would make a criminal worse rather than rehabilitate - too harsh a punishment can be counterproductive.

Either that or they don't have a clue ](*,)

I'd go with the latter

That aside, who's going to challenge this decision?
