'Knowledge test' plan for Hull taxi drivers goes to councillors

Plans to introduce a so-called "knowledge test" for people applying to be taxi drivers in Hull will be considered by city councillors next week.

As first revealed in the Mail last year, the test will quiz applicants on their knowledge of Hull's road network.

If agreed, it would be part of a new BTEC Level 2 qualification, which would be a requirement for anyone applying for a Hackney carriage or private hire drivers' licence in the city.

Licences are currently approved if a driver passes a medical and completes a basic literacy and numeracy test. Applicants are also subject to a criminal record check.

A report for next week's licensing committee says: "An understanding of how to provide a professional customer service in the industry and being aware of road safety while conveying passengers along with an understanding of how to plan routes and a knowledge of routes throughout the city are key elements of a licensed private hire or Hackney carriage drivers' role."

I wonder if the new rules should include a 'Eunuchs' only policy.

Might save a few young ladies from assaults.

No the blame lies fairly and squarely on those Labour councillors who voted for the changes.

The licensing committee have a duty to protect the public, they failed miserably.

sussex as you well know Labour councillors will meet and heed requests advice from Union members Hull has a Labour council which is currently carrying out some excellent policies against BLACKLISTING by employers, they did that because the Unions approached them about the issue and surprisingly?? many of the councillors are members of that Union in this case the GMB. It's my belief had they received a delegation from a Union on this issue things would have gone very differently =D> =D> but they didnt did they #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o

So are you saying Labour councillors need unions to tell them what is right and wrong?

And if unions don't inform them then that's an excuse for f***ing it up?
