Taxi driver sought after man hurt

Police are trying to trace a taxi driver after a man was found with serious
head injuries.

The 20-year-old local man is in a critical condition in hospital after an
incident in Coventry, police said.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said crews found the man lying
unconscious in Binley Road, close to the Hipswell Highway junction, at
about 0400 GMT.

Police appealing for information said they were "trying to establish the
exact circumstances of the incident".

Leaflet drop over taxi fall death

Taxi drivers have been distributing leaflets as part of an investigation into
the death of a man who fell from the back of a moving cab.

West Midlands Police said Ryan Sawyer fell out of a silver Hackney
Carriage on Binley Road in Coventry last Monday.

The driver left the scene and the 20-year-old, who had been out with
friends, was later found on a grass verge by a passing ambulance crew.

Police said the driver must be aware of what happened and want to trace him.

Officers are looking at all licensed silver cabs in the city along with CCTV footage.

A taxi driver could help police understand how a 20-year-old died after a
night out. They believe he may have fallen from a taxi.

How can you fall from the 'back' of a Taxi?

In real taxi's, the door's are locked when it's in motion.

If the bloke was hanging onto the rear of a moving vehicle, then he's a t***, and a dead one at that.

Only if the system is working properly....

So if the motion sensor locking system is inoperative, the doors will fly open, and passengers will be sucked out of the moving taxi? Doesn't sound likely does it?

Did anyone suggest that? I was only implying that sometimes the doors don't lock as they should. Wasn't this system brought in after a spate of incidents where people fell from taxis after mistaking the door lever for the window winder......

Scenario: Driver stops for some reason, punter opens door maybe to do a runner, driver floors it, punter still jumps out and cracks his nut!

I suppose until the facts become clear we have to have an open mind regarding this incident but one observation that can be made is that the news article or police press release only mentioned one eventuality and that was the passenger fell from the moving taxi. I think we should also consider that the passenger may have jumped from the taxi? Either way one might assume that there are only two possible scenarios that could have caused the exit of the passenger considering he was alone in the Taxi.

I suppose if the passenger did jump then we can only speculate why?

If the passenger accidentally fell from the Taxi then we can only speculate how he fell and why the driver didn't stop under both scenarios?

Regards

Did he jump or was he pushed ?

If he had a reason to jump then the driver probably had reason enough to give him a shove. The outcome was unfortunate but that’s life when you behave like a scrote. I hope the driver knows when to keep his mouth shut - an unfortunate situation for all concerned.

Oh and before anyone goes off on one, get a life ... the driver only drives a cab to make a living ... the scrote gets in the back.

How do you fall from a Taxi if you have got your seat belt on? That is the law if you are a punter - is it not?

One for the pot - going back some years ago I had a guy literally climb out through the window of a TX1 I used to drive whilst I was moving, he did not want to pay.

I went back to see if he was injured or not but found nothing, and as it so happened nothing came of it.

Now I am thinking in this case what if he managed to say get a mile up the road, and then collapsed and died! The driver obviously would not know anything about it.

we've reported many an instance where the passenger has jumped out of a cab of his own free will but I don't think we have ever reported an instance where the passenger actually fell out of the cab while it was moving.

There is also another scenario, the driver let him out after paying and he was crossing the road when he was hit by another vehicle long or soon after the driver had gone

Quite possibly, but they say they have spoken to all silver vehicle owners. :-k
