This is one of the biggest problems that the Hackney trade has nationally.

We are screaming out for rank spaces in Birmingham, but we are nowhere near as badly off as you seem to be.

You have a ratio of about 11 to 1, cabs to rank spaces, whereas we have about 5 to1.

What really riles me is that the legislation for buses, (in Birmingham at least), allows for bus stops to be appointed almost anywhere at the request of the bus companies, whilst we have to go begging.

We've even had a proposal from the PH trade recently, that if we apply for a cab rank they should be consulted first, in case it is where they don't want a cab rank to be!!!

The mind boggles!!!

The problem we have and I'm guessing Brum ain't the same...is that our licensing is controlled by our LA and our roads are controlled by our County Council...two levels of bureaucracy.....even though in fairness to the LA they do their best.

That is a real asshole situation. How can you get any progress?

In those circumstances the cab trade is just a political pawn between the LA & the County Council.

Have you tried applying for ranks directly to the County Council?

Appointment of Taxi Ranks has to be a major issue if new legislation is to be enacted.

We have loads of ranks in Sefton I think it's a hundred and 80 for 271 cabs.... the problem is sometimes actually getting them in the right place..... the first place to start is on new development... at planning level... new ranks must be include.

If the admin of the site wanted to censor posts they can simply press the delete button.

I suspect what the admin have done is chat with someone who may have concerns about the thread, and the implications it might have in relation to certain licensing officer(s).

But then we have chef t**ser GA bringing it all back up again.

I suspect when that person rings up admin again they may well direct them to you.
