But there'll always be drivers willing to work at these quieter times, if only because many of them wouldn't consider working Saturday night whatever the differential in earnings.
If less cars are working during the day then that will mean more money, but the cars would reduce only to the extent that earning don't increase too much, because there will clearly become a point where the fewer cars boost earnings sufficiently until an acceptable level of earnings is reached.
Limiting hours would certainly lead many drivers to change their work patterns, but as regards the number of cars out at any one time I suspect things wouldn't change too radically.
Indeed, if limiting hours meant that hourly earnings increased then it's probable that more drivers would be attracted into the trade, thus a short-term boost to earnings would probably be lost in the longer-term, to a degree at least.
