So the UK is currently an EU member. Its population is 60 million.

Part of the UK with a population of 5 million wants to become independent of the UK.

Somehow I can't see the EU viewing the position of rUK (the UK minus Scotland) as being the same as Scotland as a separate entity which left the UK.

I think the EU already has a policy regarding member states that separate.

What truly galls me is the way the snp seems to be behaving or posturing.....they're like a scorned wife during a divorce claiming everything in the house.......which will be interesting come the divorce proceedings.

Dusty, that figure is a lie, not on your part btw, but I have an encyclopedia from 1968 that says the UK pop is 59 million, so 40 years on the increase is only 1 million huh, it's more like 100 million now, or did many people live on the streets before the house building boom came about, food for thought heh, another ministerial lie to appease those that actually look.

I'm not against Independence per se, but democracy in its present form only benefits those in big business and politicians. Give me a “Government of the people, by the people, for the people” and you have my vote, but more of the same, no thanks.

Until you address the flaws in the democratic system power lies not with its people but with the new gang, you are proposing to vote in. :-|

Oh and Tone, I am not making any of the above up and if anything, you should be on my side. :-|

Hootsman not a good example .We will have to agree to disagree because i do think the SNP are a party of the people, by the people for the people.
I also think your views do apply to the Westminster parties who have not only ruined the Scottish economy but England's as well . Hey i could be wrong and maybe i have bought into it hook line a sinker but surely it can not be any worse than we already have .

So let me get this right, your support for the SNP, and independence is faith/trust/loyalty in the hope that things “cannot be any worse than we already have.” #-o

According to Wikipedia the latest estimate (2010) is just over 62 million.

The 2001 census figure was just under 59 million, and no doubt we'll have an up-to-date figure soon with the latest census.

Of course, the figures probably aren't wholly accurate, but I suspect they're in the right ball park.

Can illegals fill in the census then, there is deffo a lot more ppl now than 40 years ago, they lie on all fronts, the Asian community is 5% apparently, how do they get this figure when every city has a large population of Asians, London, Brum, Bradford, Stoke, Blackburn, Bristol........etc etc, it's appeasment figures that's all.

Not sure what they do about illegals, but I doubt if there are 40 million of them :D

I don't think there are as many ethnic minority citizens as you think, but perhaps as a cab driver you get the impression that there are more than there actually are in wider society.

And in large swathes of the country you won't see any ethnic minority citizens at all.

It's a bit like traffic lights - you only notice them when they're at red, not when they're green, so you think there's more red lights than there actually are

I dont know, I tend to avoid doing such things like voting....especially when i think they're all a bunch of c*nts.

I want Scotland independent, it'll be a good thing for my area, so my view is entirely selfish.

Do you know how many Scots will visit Cumbria once your beer tax starts? The estimates are astonishing.

I just don't want you to go down the route of the Euro....because I refuse to accept those f*cking things.

As for the oil.......errm I think I got russian gas and oil at the moment......the stuff north of the border is too expensive.....but its a buyers market =D>

Wind power? ffs you really need to see those hills near my house :D

I like the idea of wind power and think every home should have a windmill along with a solar panel on the roof :D

Wind power is in plentiful supply as it rarely stops blowing a bloody Gale up here. However, solar power could be a bit of a problem, the last time the sun appeared everyone thought it was a UFO.

Now ~~~~ If they could work out a way of turning Rain into Energy. Ayrshire would certainly be able to export something other than "Tatties"!
