Please remember that there are people in Gateshead who do rent vehicles even though, for less money per week, they could have their own.

Sadly not all drivers have A1 credit, and I guess that's why they rent rather than buy.

And good luck to them.

I know a lot of guys who don’t want the hassle of owning but they don’t like the idea of paying a kings ransom for a rental either. I know of one guy in particular who passed the knowledge but went back to driving PH. He now owns a Skoda Ph that doubles as his private car. He told me he couldn’t afford to run a private car and work the hours dictated by the taxi owner. His family life was more important. Now he works the hours that suite him.

He’s looking forward to getting his own plate and taxi as a result of de-restriction. For him and a lot of others de-restriction can’t come quick enough.
The reasons for renting are as varied as the drivers doing it. The same is true here, the difference is here they have the choice.

I know that you will say that derestriction will offer the choice as to whether or not a driver would have to rent or buy their own vehicle .................... but those making that choice need to be aware that deresriction will lead to more vehicles and therefore a lower market share.

I also know that you will suggest that increases in vehicle numbers will have minimal impact as drivers will hand back their rental cabs and get their own ..................... and I do hope that your right.
However I must tell you, and warn others, that my experience is completely the opposite ................... cab owners find new jockies and charge less, even more so for 12 hour hires, and cab numbers rise to saturation point.

I think you will find that the trade will be signifigantly devalued ............... and I predict that within 2 years Mr Skull and his friends will not be driving a Hackney Carriage, in fact I recon they'll have left the job all together and be working somewhere PAYE.

The hearing hasn’t taken place yet and I should know, as I am standing in for Jim as he will be on holiday. The council has already chucked in the towel. It’s not about whether or not the plates will be granted, it’s about when. By the Sheriff or by the council - the Sheriff passing it back to the regulatory committee to be granted at a later date.

The Council have already conceded the plates on the ground of breaching natural justice.

Gladstone is just an ar*e

We’ve mentioned the London model and quality controls before.

If the trade can’t get its act together then tough shi*

I would rather have total destruction than be dictated to by the vermin who claim to be “businessmen”.

London have the knowledge .................. ie years of training .................. if you want to put yourself through that then you should not expect any further restrictions of entry.

But you don't want the trade to get its act together Skull, you want ANOTHER plate ............. and you get upset when people suggest that you'd had your chance.

I think that this statement show clearly that your nothing more than a spoilt child, "I'll take my ball home if you don't let me play centre forward"
A businessman would not have sold a business he got for nothing and then complained that he couldn't do it again.

You may prefer total destruction ................. but I doubt anyone in Edinburgh would share your willingness to accept financial ruin and un-employment.

I’m not putting myself through anything

What the feck are you on about? I don’t care if the trade gets its act together and as for license plates we will keep on taking until things change. If the law agrees with us then so be it.

We are doing it again, and again and again, and we will keep on doing it as long as is necessary. The law is on our side or haven’t you noticed? It’s the council that’s in the sh*t.

What they prefer or accept is of no concern to me whatsoever. They will dance to the tune regardless of how willing they are.

GA, you are confusing me with someone who cares.

BTW GA, you don’t ask vermin for their opinions before you crush them under foot and the council don’t see it any differently than wee do. That’s why they are vermin.

I think you will find that the stress problem is solely in the minds of the owners. I’m not the one losing the plate value, the taxi, the house, the car, the driver, the….

You make a prison for yourself the minute you fear losing something that others can take away. I value my freedom of mind far more than any trinket or bauble. People become prisoners and slaves to their illusions of grandeur - as we can see with the Edinburgh Taxi Trade.

It's sad that you have nothing that you place a value on, I think it must be even sadder for your little girl.

Thanks Skull .................. I mean if anyone was under any doubt about your intentions and motivation you have certainly made clear that you care about no-one but yourself.

I on the other hand evaluate the consequenses of my actions ................ and whether you believe it or not still have the best interest of the trade AS A WHOLE at heart.
